The Constantin Yards carry urban image-changing significance with them. The meandering succession of buildings located on a narrow plot is one of the focal points of the Rhine’s right bank urban development plan executed by the city of Cologne. Intended as an intermediary link between the expanded Deutz residential area and the ambitious development quarter of the fairgrounds and the high-speed train terminal in Deutz, the ensemble protects the neighbourhood’s residential streets from noise coming from the transit routes to the north. Simultaneously, the building dovetails the unequal scales of the neighbourhood with the help of green atria and a public square with gastronomic functions. The façade structure using light natural stone lesenes seamlessly covers the meander and gives it a strong appearance in the urban context.
