This new HELIOS Specialist Clinic replaces the former Martin Luther Hospital. It offers in excess of 400 patient beds. The HELIOS Medical Center in Schleswig is a significant factor in the healthcare service of this region.
Taking into account the adjoining development, the required construction volume was divided up into several individual structures. The comb-like shaped layout of the new clinic building with its brightly rendered façade fits into the park-like hillside behind. A main artery connects the three building sections and the corresponding surgery areas, the outpatient clinic and the wards.
A special unit for the acute care of stroke patients - a Stroke Unit - was established at the HKSL. On the rooftop of one of the clinic buildings is the clinic’s own helicopter landing pad, which optimizes patient transfer. The public cafeteria seats 160. It serves both patients and visitors as a meeting place.
